Hostel Rules
1. The use of narcotics, consumption of alcoholic beverages, smoking, and gambling in the hostel and university is strictly banned. You will be expelled from the hostel upon being caught in the first instance. The hostel entry/exit time for first-year hostels is 8:00 PM. The entry/exit time for first-year hostels will be declared from time to time before the fresher’s party. 3. After 8:30 PM, the staff in the hostel will take attendance of all residents and report to the warden about any absentees. 4. If a resident of a hostel is going out of the university, it will be mandatory for him/her to make an entry in the entry/exit register kept at the main gate of the hostel. 5. Residents going out of the university must clearly mention their correct address and time of return in the entry/exit register kept at the hostel gate; failing to do so will result in punishment. 6. Students will not be allowed to enter the boys' hostel after 11:30 PM and the girls' hostel after 10:30 PM without prior approval. 7. Students must always carry their hostel identity card with them and will be allowed to enter the hostel only upon producing it. 8. A resident will be permitted to enter the hostel only if he shows his hostel ID card to the security guard at the main gate. 9. If a hostel resident is found helping a non-resident enter the hostel by any means, strict action will be taken, which may include expulsion from the hostel. 10. Any change in address/contact number of self/parents/guardians should immediately be intimated to the hostel office and UMS. Students should ensure that this information is updated in their student profile on UMS. 11. A resident of any hostel is not permitted to stay in any other hostel without permission from the warden of that hostel. 12. Playing games, listening to loud music, and watching TV are strictly not permitted between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM. 13. Hostel authorities may visit student rooms for checks if required. 14. Ragging in any form is a criminal offense and is strictly prohibited. Students shall not indulge in any kind of ragging activity towards other students. 15. Any act of intimidation or violence, drunken behavior, or riotous behavior constitutes an offense. 16. Willful damage to hostel property constitutes an offense, and it is likely that a fine will be imposed on all residents of the hostel. 17. Playing football, cricket, etc., in the hostel corridors is strictly not permitted. 18. Defacing walls, doors, and windows of hostel rooms is an offense. Do not write with pen, pencil, or paint on walls, doors, or windows. Do not paste posters or photos on walls or doors; heavy fines will be imposed if any inmate is found indulging in these activities. 19. Residents should not throw papers or plastics outside their rooms or in common areas; they must use garbage bins only and should not keep any belongings outside their rooms. 20. In case of any damage or breakage of university property or hostel property, costs will be recovered from occupants. 21. Students must switch off their room lights/fans when they leave their rooms. 22. Do not play audio/video players at loud volumes that disturb others. 23. Do not engage in any acts that can cause inconvenience to others. 24. Non-hostlers are not allowed to stay in the hostel without prior information and approval from hostel authorities. 25. Everyone must have their meals in the mess only during mess timings; you are not allowed to take mess utensils, food, or chairs outside the mess. 26. Misbehavior towards roommates, mess workers, hostel staff, and security guards will not be tolerated. 27. Use of abusive language is prohibited. 28. Students are not allowed to keep cars on campus. 29. Students shall not break any locks (personal or official) in the hostel; you must inform hostel authorities about any problems encountered. 30. Interchanging allotted rooms without approval from competent authority is not permitted. 31. Rooms are allotted for one academic year, and residents must vacate their rooms at the end of the academic year as per norms of hostel allotment. 32. In case of illness, students must immediately inform the hotel warden/caretaker. 33. Personal celebrations (e.g., birthdays) inside the hostel are not permitted. 34. Guests, friends, parents, relatives, etc., are not allowed to stay overnight in rooms; prior permission must be obtained from authorities for availing guest room facilities based on availability and payment. 35. Only parents are allowed to visit inmates between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM on working days after making proper entries in the register available with security personnel on duty; visitors can meet residents in the visitor room of the hostel. 36. With prior permission from the hostel warden, male guests may stay in boys' hostels and female guests may stay in girls' hostels in guest rooms after paying prescribed guest charges. 37. A fine of Rs 250 per student per day will be charged if an AC unit in a closed room is found running (J.C Bose Hostel, Alakanda Hostel, Kaveri Hostel). **Note:** Disobedience of these rules will result in strict action as per university regulations; students can face heavy fines or even expulsion from the hostel immediately.
